The problem
01
Bloating after meals, migraines, flushing and brain fog, linked to low DAO activity in the gut.
02
Recurring hives and mast cell flares driven by histamine release.
03
Histamine-mediated visceral hypersensitivity overlapping with irritable bowel syndrome, and ulcerative colitis.
04
They block receptors but leave histamine in place, with sedation, dry mouth and tolerance.
New patent application
A bi-enzymatic product containing DAO and Catalase is proposed as topical treatment for ulcerative colitis in relation with histamine excess. The effect of the two enzymes, when associated, is proven in animal models. The composition represents a novelty and a new patent application is on-going.
New bi-enzymatic invention
Details will be published in November 2026.
The mechanism
DAO consumes oxygen and water to degrade histamine, and releases hydrogen peroxide. Catalase converts that peroxide back into oxygen and water, closing the loop. The pairing is the core of Histapharm's technology.
01
Plant DAO uses oxygen and water to break histamine down:
histamine + O2 + H2O → aldehyde + H2O2 + NH3
02
Each histamine molecule degraded leaves behind hydrogen peroxide, a reactive oxygen species.
03
The peroxide becomes oxygen and water again, the very inputs DAO needs:
2 H2O2 → 2 H2O + O2
Oral formulation
01 · Source
Extracted from legume seedlings. No animal-derived enzymes.
02 · Pair
Prevents hydrogen peroxide from building up as DAO works.
03 · Stabilize
A proprietary gastro-resistant matrix protects enzyme activity through the stomach.
04 · Act
Released in the small intestine and colon, where histamine is absorbed.
05 · Resolve
Metabolites are excreted naturally. No receptors are blocked.
Differentiation
| Antihistamines | Histapharm | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Block H1 or H2 receptors | Degrade histamine itself |
| Where it acts | Systemically, after absorption | In the gut, before absorption |
| Histamine | Stays in the body | Is broken down |
| Approach | Suppresses symptoms | Addresses the excess at its source |
